7 Steps to Firing Your Boss…

So, you admit that you want to Fire Your Boss and control your own destiny. Well, you have taken the first step – admitting that you want out. Here are the seven steps to Firing Your Boss…

  • Get Mad – I don’t mean mad like you hate someone. I mean get mad like you are sick and tired of the path you are on. Get fed up, annoyed, angry. You will need this attitude to fuel you. Don’t lose site of this passion for change.
  • Figure out your Starting Point – Time to circle the troops and do inventory. What do you have at your disposal? How much money is in the bank (if any). What debts to you have? What can you get rid of if you need to?
  • What do you need to learn? – Ok, here is the hard part. What are you going to learn to change your life? Well, that is what Fire Your Boss is all about! Read the various opportunities to see what might be a good fit – there is something for everyone!
  • Study – Study everything you can about your new side venture. Once you have identified a moneymaking opportunity to learn, study everything you can. Books, tapes, classes, networking…everything. Remember, every good opportunity has people that will tell you “it will never work.” Oddly enough those people are the most vocal. They need to believe the business can’t work to explain their failure. You are not one of those people – you are only focused on success. If you run into a wall, you move around it.
  • Test Flight – Chances are you are going to need to do it “on the side” or “part time” from your current job. There is safety in starting a business on the side. You don’t have to put it all on the line but there is also a downside. Most people are not near as motivated when it is not all on the line. Your new part-time business needs your focus and attention. You will have to go way out of your way to give it the time that it needs (especially if you are still working for the Boss full time). If you ever don’t feel like you are putting in the time you need to, remember #1.
  • Get to Neutral – Once you have some money coming in from your side project – any money – you are well on your way. Now you have to get to neutral – the point where if you pair down everything you have you can get by on your new income. This is the hardest part to get to – largely because people never put in the energy they need to. Life takes over and they just fall back into old ways. Don’t do it – Keep moving forward!
  • Fire Your Boss – Your ready. Expenses are at a minimum and your are bringing in ok money from your new venture – you just need time to make it bigger and you “job” and “boss” are just holding you back.

I like the “get mad” part. Makes sense to me if you put up with it, you won’t go anywhere.
